Hi Folks!

Yep!  That’s right!  Between juggling a 16-month-old, housework, and being 6 months pregnant–I finished my next novel!  I think now people will understand why I wasn’t blogging as much.  When I wasn’t changing diapers or cleaning dishes, I was working away at my MacBook, editing like crazy and working with a designer on my book cover.  It’s been a long journey but I am so excited to debut my new novel come early December.

And what, do you ask, is it called?

Another drum roll please…

A Modern Day Sense & Sensibility: An Adaptation of Jane Austen’s Classic.

I won’t give away too much now, being as I want to debut the novel properly with its artwork and promotional text, but yes, ‘S&S’ is my next installment in Jane Austen modernizations.

I’ll leave you with that tid-bit for now, but keep your eyes peeled for early December!

Hugs,

Kaitlin

Welcome, beautiful baby Emma Elizabeth

Posted by Kaitlin Saunders in Blog on August 14, 2012 - (Comments Off)

Born Friday night, June 29th, to proud parents Tim & Kaitlin was an angel: Emma Elizabeth.

My darling daughter, I love you so much! You are such a blessing and delight to your father and I. We cherish every single moment with you. <3

Being a mother has changed my life. Free time–what was that? Haha. Yet though my days fly by with feedings, dirty diapers, cuddles, and let’s not forget household duties–the fact that I can’t just plop down and spend hours at a time writing doesn’t really matter anymore. Time spent with my daughter is unbelievably more precious.

As I find this rare moment to post a long-awaited blog entry, I’m in awe of the impact I will have on Emma. Will she be proud of me? Will she be inspired by my desire to be an author and my determination in getting published? Will she herself be a writer? Every decision I now make, I have to keep in mind how it will influence my little Emma. What an amazing responsibility.

The first thing I want to teach her is to be a “finisher,” that is, to finish what she starts. In saying that, I’m proud to announce that I’ve finally gotten around to seriously editing my second book, which I hope to have published within the coming year. Although I’m not ready to announce the title or any details, let’s just say fans who enjoyed my first book and hope for a second in a similar style are in luck.

Oh, and for you Austen fans out there, Emma’s Austenesque naming was completely unintentional! Haha. Emma is actually family name I’ve always admired–belonging to my great-great grandmother who in her day was an architect and poet! And her middle name, Elizabeth, was selected by my husband. So you see, it must have been fate!

Until next time, friends!

Thanks Courtney for inviting me to be on your website!

A Modern Day Persuasion was reviewed by Joceline Bury in the Jan/Feb 2012 edition of Jane Austen’s Regency World Magazine, which is the Official Magazine of The Jane Austen Centre in Bath.  You can imagine the excitement I felt when my copy of the magazine arrived in the mail!

Saunders, meanwhile, transplants the Elliots and their coterie to another continent, as well as another century, basing her love story on the West Coast of the US.

In beautiful Portland, Oregon, Anne Elliot watches Jane Austen DVDs, looks after her sister’s children and quietly nurses her broken heart.  Saunders creates a convincing world for Anne and her family, cleverly updating the story without ever losing its overwhelming atmosphere of missed chances and misplaced affection.  Her Anne is a young woman irrevocably stuck in the past, marking time with her career and unable to move on – until, of course, the old love reappears, along with another potential suitor.

Merry Christmas!

The thing I love most about Christmas, aside from remembering the true reason for the season, is traditions.  My husband and I have started a few of our own and it just makes the December air seem so festive.

Our delicious cinnamon rolls! YUMMY!For instance, we always make a big batch of home-made cinnamon rolls Christmas Eve and then bake them up Christmas morning.  Oh, how I love the smell of those delicious rolls baking in the oven while we open presents from each other!  When the rolls cool down enough to frost, we always put gobs of cream cheese frosting over them and gorge ourselves before sharing them with the rest of our family.  Our siblings look forward to our rolls every year now!

Then after we prepare our cinnamon rolls on Christmas Eve and sing carols at a Christmas Eve service, we come back to our cozy apartment, get into our most Christmasy pajamas and watch a favorite holiday movie.  This year we selected “It’s a Wonderful Life”.   And with my man by my side and our little baby growing day by day in my belly, well, it really is a wonderful life.

Merry Christmas everyone, and Happy Birthday, Jesus!  Thank you for coming to save us and giving us a holiday to celebrate your birthday!

Happy Holidays,

Kaitlin
